The Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice provides a comprehensive education designed to prepare students for professional careers in policing, courts, corrections, and related fields, combining foundational knowledge with practical experience and applied research. Students complete 36 credit hours of General Education coursework, including academic foundations in mathematics, writing, and speaking, breadth of knowledge in arts, natural sciences, and social sciences, diversity studies, and integrated and applied learning courses, ensuring a well-rounded educational background. The program requires 40 additional credits of upper-level courses within or outside the major, as approved by the department chair. Core requirements include foundational courses in government, criminal justice, corrections, policing, and sociology, while foundation courses provide advanced training in research methods, social inequalities, criminology, policy analysis, and legal research. Students also complete a minimum of six credits in foreign culture courses and select a concentration in Policing, Courts and Law, Corrections, or Criminology, with additional program electives tailored to their area of focus, covering topics such as crime analysis, criminal procedure, juvenile delinquency, law and society, and homeland security. The curriculum integrates internships, fieldwork, and research opportunities, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts while developing professional skills, critical thinking, and evidence-based practices for careers in criminal justice administration and policy.
