Course Curriculum

The Biblical Studies major at Jessup University requires 45 units and is structured to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in biblical scholarship, theology, and applied ministry. The 30-unit Biblical Studies Core begins with courses focused on biblical literacy and interpretation, including Biblical World: Hebrew Bible (BIBL211), Biblical World: New Testament (BIBL212), Bible and Spiritual Formation (BIBL480), and Hermeneutics (BIBL349). Students also complete a Capstone project (BIBL498) to integrate and apply their learning. Key theological courses include Theology of the Hebrew Bible (THEO340) and Theology of the New Testament (THEO360), along with an upper-division elective in biblical or philosophical studies. In addition, students must complete a biblical language sequence, choosing either Biblical Greek I and II or Biblical Hebrew I and II, which equips them to engage more deeply with original biblical texts.Students then choose one of four 15-unit concentrations to tailor their education to their specific interests and career goals. The General Concentration allows flexible selection of five courses from a range of biblical electives, with at least two being upper division. The Pastoral Ministry Concentration offers practical courses such as Expository Preaching, Pastoral Care and Counseling, and Youth Ministry. The Theology Concentration focuses on historical, comparative, and contemporary theology, alongside a theology or philosophy elective. The Global Leadership Concentration prepares students for cross-cultural and mission-oriented roles, with classes such as Intercultural Communication, Poverty and Development, and Leading with a Mission. Each concentration provides targeted preparation for careers in ministry, education, nonprofit leadership, or academic research. The program as a whole fosters a deep understanding of scripture, theological insight, and leadership skills grounded in Christian values, ideal for students pursuing roles as pastors, teachers, missionaries, or scholars.
