In the first year of the Masters in Aquatic Veterinary Studies, students follow a structured program designed to develop advanced skills in aquaculture health and disease management. During the autumn semester, students complete compulsory modules in Foundations of Aquatic Production and Aquaculture in Practice, each worth 20 credits, which provide essential knowledge of the biology, husbandry, and management of farmed aquatic species. They also undertake Aquaculture Diagnosis Skills 1, focusing on histopathology and viral diseases, equipping them with practical diagnostic techniques. In the spring semester, students continue their training with compulsory modules in Aquaculture Diagnostic Skills 2, Parasites and Treatments, and Aquaculture Health Control, each 20 credits, deepening their expertise in disease identification, therapeutic interventions, and overall health management in aquaculture systems. The summer semester is dedicated to a 60-credit dissertation project in Aquatic Veterinary Studies, allowing students to apply their learning to a research-focused or industry-based project. Throughout the year, the program combines classroom-based learning, practical laboratory work, and field experiences, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills. By the end of the first year, graduates are well-prepared to address real-world challenges in aquatic animal health, supporting sustainable aquaculture practices and contributing effectively to research, consultancy, and professional veterinary roles in the aquaculture industry.
