Course Curriculum

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree offers a structured progression through creative, technical, and professional skills development, preparing students for a dynamic career in visual communication. In the first year, core modules such as Design Thinking and Typography introduce the principles of problem solving, conceptual development, and typographic practice, while Visual Exploration 1 and 2 encourage experimentation with different media, techniques, and visual styles to build a strong creative foundation. The second year expands on this knowledge with Experimental Formats, which challenges students to push boundaries in presentation and design delivery, and Future and Emerging Technology, which explores the integration of cutting-edge tools and digital innovations into the design process. Modules in Research, Analysis and Context, along with Sustainability, Society and Impact, provide critical understanding of design’s role in cultural, social, and environmental contexts, helping students to create work that is both innovative and responsible. In the third year, the focus shifts toward professional practice and industry engagement through Co-Creation 1 and 2, where students collaborate on live briefs and interdisciplinary projects. Creative Futures supports career planning and portfolio development, while the Research, Analysis and Communication Assignment consolidates analytical and presentation skills. This combination of creative exploration, critical awareness, and professional preparation equips graduates for diverse roles in the contemporary design industry.
