Course Curriculum

The MSc Sustainable Air Transport programme is structured over three trimesters to provide a comprehensive understanding of sustainability challenges and strategies within the aviation sector. In Trimester One, students study Sustainable Airlines and Greener Air Traffic Management, examining approaches to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency in airline operations. Sustainable Airports and Integrated Advanced Air Mobility explores the role of airports as multimodal hubs and emerging air mobility solutions, while Sustainable Multimodal Airport Surface Access focuses on reducing the environmental impact of ground transport connections. Sustainable Transport Policies and Principles introduces the frameworks and regulatory contexts that guide sustainable transport planning and decision-making. Trimester Two emphasises organisational and strategic approaches, with Sustainability Strategy and Reporting in Air Transport developing skills to create and implement sustainability policies and report performance, and Sustainable Transport Appraisal and Evaluation equipping students to assess the economic, social, and environmental impacts of aviation projects and policies. Students also select two optional modules from Contemporary Issues in Sustainability, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Noise Measurement and Modelling, or Planning and Policies of Urban Environments, allowing them to tailor their learning to specific interests. Trimester Three is dedicated to the Dissertation, where students undertake an independent research project that synthesises theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and critical analysis. Graduates leave equipped to develop and implement sustainability strategies, evaluate aviation projects, and contribute to environmentally and socially responsible practices within airlines, airports, and the broader air transport industry.
