Course Curriculum

The MSc Building Information Management (BIM) and Digital Built Environments at the University of Salford equips students with a comprehensive understanding of digital construction and project delivery processes. Core modules, such as Building Information Modelling Theory and Practice, provide a strong foundation in BIM concepts, tools, and workflows, enabling students to manage and implement information modelling across complex projects. The Integrated BIM Projects module offers practical, hands-on experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary settings, simulating real-world construction and design challenges. Lean Integrated Design and Production further develops students’ skills in optimising efficiency and coordination throughout the project lifecycle, emphasising integrated approaches to planning, design, and construction. Optional modules, including Sustainable Design Theory and Practice and Project and Production Management, allow students to tailor their learning to specialised interests, exploring environmentally responsible design strategies or advanced management techniques. The dissertation project provides the opportunity to undertake in-depth research, consolidating theoretical knowledge and practical skills while investigating a specific area of digital built environments. The combination of applied learning, industry-relevant theory, and research enables graduates to effectively respond to evolving professional demands, implement innovative BIM strategies, and enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and overall quality of construction projects. The programme prepares students for leadership roles in architecture, engineering, and construction sectors, positioning them to drive digital transformation and innovation.
