Course Curriculum

The MSc in Business Analytics equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to extract meaningful insights from complex data and apply them to solve real-world business problems. The course blends theoretical foundations with hands-on experience across areas such as data mining, machine learning, data visualisation, and digital technologies. Central to the programme is the Business Analytics Project (45 credits), which allows students to conduct an independent research project, applying analytical techniques to address a practical or theoretical issue in a business context. This project enables students to consolidate their learning and demonstrate their ability to work autonomously on complex tasks. The course begins with Foundations of Scholarship for Business Analysts, aimed at developing the academic and professional skills essential for success at postgraduate level and beyond. Key modules include Advanced Analytics: Statistics and Machine Learning, Business Analytics: Theory and Practice, and Business Data Mining and Visual Analytics. These modules introduce students to essential methods in statistical analysis, econometrics, and machine learning, focusing on real-world application using programming tools and statistical software. Students learn how to prepare, analyse, and interpret business data, and how to select and evaluate appropriate models for predictive and descriptive tasks. The module on Ethical and Legal Aspects of Business Analytics examines the implications of working with big data and machine learning, addressing issues such as data privacy, governance, and ethical decision-making. Additionally, the Digital Economy, Tools and Techniques module explores the impact of emerging technologies including blockchain, AI, Web3, and decentralised finance on business analytics and strategy. This course provides a comprehensive framework for understanding how digital transformation and data-driven decision-making shape modern businesses. Graduates are well-prepared for analytical roles across a variety of sectors, such as finance, technology, healthcare, and consulting, where they can contribute to data-informed strategies and innovation.
