Course Curriculum

The MSc in 5G and Emerging Communications Systems is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of modern communication technologies and the skills needed to contribute to their development and implementation. Central to the programme is the 60-credit MSc Project and Dissertation, which allows students to undertake independent research, applying theoretical knowledge and practical techniques to a specialised area of communications engineering. Core modules cover the essential technical foundations, including Theory of Signals and Communication Systems, Digital Communications, Networking Principles, Mobile Communications, and Programmable Networks and Services, each worth 15 credits, ensuring students gain a deep understanding of signal processing, network design, and mobile technologies. Mathematical Research Techniques Using Matlab provides essential quantitative and computational skills, while Professional Practice and Research Methodology equips students with the knowledge to conduct research effectively and professionally. In addition to these compulsory modules, students can select a 15-credit optional module to tailor their learning according to specific interests or career goals. Throughout the programme, emphasis is placed on combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on experience, preparing graduates to work in telecommunications, networking, and mobile systems industries.
