In the first year of the LLM program, students engage with foundational and specialized modules designed to provide a thorough understanding of law and its application in various contexts. The Foundations of Law and Skills (DL) module (LAW6029-Z) introduces students to both English and International Legal Systems, offering essential knowledge of legal sources, institutions, and research skills. It also emphasizes critical thinking and reflective learning, preparing students for advanced legal study. This module is mandatory for all LLM students and plays a crucial role in building foundational knowledge.The Sustainable Development Law in Contemporary Business and Society module (LAW7030-B) explores the international legal frameworks and institutions involved in sustainable development. It addresses key issues such as poverty eradication, inequality, and environmental challenges. The module is relevant to students in various LLM specializations, including Technology and AI Law, Corporate Law, Banking and Financial Technology Law, and Human Rights Law, as sustainability is central to contemporary legal practice.The Regulatory Theory and Practice module (LAW7035-B) offers a critical look at the different regulatory theories in legal contexts. It focuses on questions like the necessity of regulation, approaches to regulation, and the structure of regulatory frameworks. Students will develop a deeper understanding of regulatory challenges and their practical implications in resolving legal disputes.Finally, the Dissertation module (LAW7032-E) allows students to conduct independent research in their chosen area of LLM specialization. This module requires students to advance theoretical arguments, make policy recommendations, and develop transferable skills like problem-solving, communication, and independent study. It also encourages students to reflect on their personal and professional development.
