Course Curriculum

The Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) degree provides a multidisciplinary education designed to develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities across three interconnected fields. In the first year, students establish foundational knowledge through modules in Introduction to Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, Academic Foundations in International Relations, Politics and History, Power, Politics and Ideology in Modern Europe, Introduction to Philosophy, International Political Theory, and Politics and Government. These modules provide a grounding in economic principles, political structures, philosophical reasoning, and analytical methods. The second year builds research and analytical skills through core modules such as Contemporary Debates in Philosophy, Theories and Methods in Political Research, and Research Design, while offering optional modules in areas including financial systems, economic thought, development politics, critical security studies, philosophy and public policy, gender and global politics, and the role of non-human animals in culture. The third year emphasizes independent research through a dissertation and offers advanced options to explore contemporary political philosophy, emerging global threats, environmental thought, the politics of terrorism, international economic relations, financial economics, and social and ethical issues. Throughout the course, students develop skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis, rational argumentation, conceptual reasoning, and policy evaluation. Graduates are prepared for diverse careers in government, international organizations, policy analysis, finance, law, business, and academia, equipped to address complex problems and contribute meaningfully to public and professional debates.
