Course Curriculum

The BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science degree at Liverpool John Moores University offers a comprehensive three-year programme that combines theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory experience to prepare students for careers in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. In the first year, students gain a foundation in physical properties, organic chemistry, human biology and disease, formulation science, analytical chemistry, and biologically active molecules, establishing the scientific principles essential for understanding pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. The second year builds on this foundation with modules in pharmaceutical formulation, synthetic and natural drugs, pharmacology, sterile pharmaceutical products, pharmaceutical analysis, and cosmetic product principles, while providing opportunities for a sandwich year or study abroad to gain practical industry experience. The third year focuses on advanced topics and professional development, including research methods and project work, industrial product development, advanced pharmaceutical analysis, advanced delivery systems, and safety assessment of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Throughout the programme, students develop practical laboratory skills, research capabilities, and industry-relevant knowledge, while also cultivating transferable skills such as problem-solving, communication, and project management.
