The Engineering Physics program at UBC offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and engineering principles, alongside practical project and laboratory experience. In the first year, students take foundational courses such as Introduction to Engineering I (APSC 100), Chemistry for Engineering (CHEM 154), Differential Calculus with Applications to Physical Sciences and Engineering (MATH 100), Introductory Physics for Engineers I (PHYS 157), and Mechanics I (PHYS 170), establishing essential skills in problem-solving, scientific reasoning, and engineering fundamentals. In the second year, students build on this foundation with courses including Principles of Software Construction (CPEN 221), Linear Circuits (ELEC 204), Heat and Thermodynamics (ENPH 257), Experimental Techniques (ENPH 259), and Introduction to Mechanics of Materials (MECH 260), while exploring electrical, mechanical, and computational concepts. The third year emphasizes applied physics and engineering courses such as Digital Systems and Microcomputers (CPEN 312), Mechanics of Materials (MECH 360), Electricity and Magnetism (PHYS 301), Engineering Materials (APSC 278), and Electronic Circuits (ELEC 301), alongside the first Engineering Physics Project (ENPH 459). In the fourth and fifth years, advanced courses including Applied Partial Differential Equations (MATH 400), Automatic Control (MECH 466), Professional Engineering Practice (APSC 450), Engineering Physics Project II (ENPH 479), Numerical Methods for Differential Equations (MATH 405), Statistical Mechanics (PHYS 403), and Electromechanics (ELEC 343) allow students to integrate their knowledge, conduct interdisciplinary projects, and gain hands-on technical experience, preparing them for innovative careers in engineering and technology.
