Course Curriculum

The Early Childhood Education – Intensive program at Sheridan combines rigorous coursework with practical field experience to prepare students for professional practice in early learning settings. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge through courses such as The Early Childhood Environment, Curriculum Planning for Play-based Learning, Child’s Growth and Development, Orientation to the Profession of Early Childhood Education, and Responsive Caregiving for Infants & Toddlers, complemented by a six-credit Field Practice & Seminar that allows learners to apply theory in real-world early learning environments. In the second semester, students deepen their expertise with courses including Working with School Age Children, Inclusion in Early Learning Settings, The Competent Child, Curriculum Theory and Approaches in ECEC, and Professional Ethics and Advocacy in ECEC, along with an eight-credit Field Practice & Seminar that provides extended hands-on experience in diverse early childhood contexts. Throughout the program, students engage with a curriculum designed to foster practical skills, critical thinking, and professional judgment, guided by experienced faculty in state-of-the-art learning environments. This integrated approach ensures graduates are prepared to support children’s learning and development effectively, implement inclusive and play-based programming, and advocate for best practices in early childhood education, equipping them for immediate entry into the workforce or for further professional advancement in the field.
