The Applied Economics (APEC) Major at Queen’s University is a 120.0-unit, four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts program that provides a strong foundation in economic theory, data analysis, and policy application. Students begin with core introductory courses, ECON 110 or ECON 111 and 112, and STAT 161 (Introduction to Data Science), followed by intermediate courses in Microeconomic Theory I (ECON 212), Macroeconomic Theory I (ECON 222), Econometrics I (ECON 251), and Math for Economics and Business (ECON 256). Advanced coursework includes Applied Economic Analysis (ECON 311) and Applied Econometrics (ECON 352), along with one 400-level elective such as Financial Economics, Economic History, Cost-Benefit Analysis, or Microeconomic Policy. Students then specialize through one of four sub-plans: Business and Market Strategy, Data Analytics and Finance, Global Issues and Policy, or Policy Design and Evaluation, and complete additional electives in areas like Economic History and Communication in Economics. The remaining 72.0 units are reserved for electives or other degree requirements. The program blends theoretical and applied perspectives, equipping students with analytical, quantitative, and policy-evaluation skills applicable to careers in economics, finance, government, and consulting, or for advanced studies in economics, public policy, and business.
