Course Curriculum

The Health Science option of the Kinesiology Diploma at Okanagan College is designed for students aiming to transfer up to 60 credits toward a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, or related fields, and is ideal for those pursuing careers as health professionals such as kinesiologists, clinical exercise physiologists, physiotherapists, or occupational therapists. In the first year, students complete foundational courses including Health, Fitness and Lifestyle, Human Anatomy I for Kinesiology, Human Physiology I for Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, University Writing, Exercise Prescription for Health, Human Anatomy and Physiology II, Motor Learning and Control, and Health and Human Nutrition, along with three elective credits from kinesiology, business, arts, or sciences. The second year builds on this foundation with specialized courses such as Exercise Physiology, Science of Strength and Conditioning, Health Behaviour Change, Research Methods in Kinesiology, Growth and Motor Development, Health, Policy and Canadian Society, Fitness Testing and Exercise Prescription, and Biomechanics, paired with three elective credits per semester. Recommended electives include Introduction to Athletic Injuries, Community Program Planning, Elementary Statistics, Pathophysiology for Health Sciences, and courses in psychology, sociology, anthropology, or the natural sciences. This program equips students with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research experience necessary for careers in health, rehabilitation, exercise prescription, and community wellness, while preparing them for further professional education.
