Course Curriculum

The Master’s degree in Disaster/Emergency Management and National Security (DEM) is a 33-credit interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students and professionals for leadership roles in managing complex threats across public and private sectors. Completed in four semesters of full-time study, the program equips individuals with the theoretical understanding and practical tools required to respond effectively to emergencies, disasters, and national security challenges. The curriculum integrates foundational and advanced coursework, including Interdisciplinary Methods (IDS 500), Threat Spectrum (IDS 510), Terrorism (IDS 515), Principles of Information Security and Federal Law (CSO 500), Homeland Security and Emergency Management (CRJ 585), and Politics and Evaluation of Policy (ADS 720). It also incorporates essential management and organizational courses such as Global Sourcing and Risk Management (MGT 654), Strategic Supply Chain Management (MGT 674), and Organizational Development (MGT 677), emphasizing coordination, logistics, and leadership in high-risk environments. The program concludes with a two-part capstone sequence—Capstone Research I (IDS 600) and Capstone Research II (IDS 601)—where students apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios and policy analysis. Through its comprehensive approach, the DEM program prepares graduates to effectively anticipate, mitigate, and manage crises in government, defense, security, and private industry contexts.
