The Kinesiology diploma program spans two years and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human movement, health, and physical activity through both theoretical and practical coursework. In the first year, students begin with foundational courses such as KNES 204, which explores the sociocultural aspects of leisure and sport, and KNES 250, focusing on the administration of sport and physical education programs. KNES 261 covers human anatomy, while PHSL 370 introduces human physiology. Students also select one course from either KNES 2XX or a statistics course such as STAT 2XX or STAT 333 to develop analytical skills. In the second term of the first year, students take ENGL 2XX to enhance communication skills, KNES 220 on the prevention and care of athletic injuries, and KNES 247, which offers an introduction to wellness, fitness, and nutrition. Nutrition knowledge is further developed in NUTR 200, while PHSL 371 continues the study of human physiology. In the second year, students choose between PSYC 200 or PSYC 201 to understand psychological principles relevant to health and sport, and take KNES 240, which addresses adapted physical education. KNES 260 introduces coaching, KNES 290 covers human growth and development, and KNES 373 focuses on exercise physiology. The final term includes KNES 206, exploring the psychology of sport and physical activity, KNES 255 on biomechanics, and KNES 270, which provides skills in fitness assessment and exercise prescription. The program culminates with KNES 295, a practicum or work experience, offering students the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world settings. Together, these courses prepare students for diverse careers in health, fitness, sport, and rehabilitation, and lay the groundwork for further study or certification, such as becoming a Certified Personal Trainer through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology.
