Discover how each program is uniquely designed to inspire learning

The Paralegal Education diploma program at Humber is structured to provide a comprehensive legal education across four semesters, covering both theory and practical skills. In the first semester, students study foundational courses such as Canada’s legal system, contract and tort law, legal computer applications, and legal research, along with critical reading and writing skills tailored for law clerks and paralegals. The second semester builds on this foundation with courses in criminal summary conviction procedures, small claims court, accounting for courts and tribunals, administrative law, and professional communication, complemented by a general elective. In the third semester, students deepen their knowledge through courses in residential landlord and tenant law, evidence, provincial offences procedures under the Highway Traffic Act, tribunal practice and procedure, and the first field experience placement, along with an elective. The final semester focuses on advocacy, alternative dispute resolution methods like mediation and arbitration, business planning, employment law, and professional conduct, ethics, and authorized practices, alongside a second field experience placement. This well-rounded curriculum equips students with essential legal knowledge, practical advocacy skills, and professional ethics to succeed as licensed paralegals in Ontario.
