Course Curriculum

The Funeral Director Class 1 (Embalming) diploma program at Humber spans five semesters, offering students a comprehensive education in both the technical and emotional aspects of funeral service. In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Jurisprudence, Vascular Embalming and Practicum, Embalming Theory and Procedures, Ethics, and Cosmetology, along with College Reading and Writing Skills to support academic success. Semester 2 deepens this knowledge through courses like Disease, Death, and the Body, Restorative Art, Grief Issues, Funeral Arranging and Directing, and Embalming Theory and Practicum, supplemented by a general education elective. Semester 3 focuses on real-world preparation with courses including Funeral Arrangements, Business Operations, and a trio of applied learning experiences—Theoretical Applications 1, Practical Applications 1, and Embalming Applications 1—culminating in Field Experience 1. In Semester 4, students further refine their expertise with Theoretical and Practical Applications 2 and 3, Embalming Applications 2 and 3, Field Experience 2, and a capstone course in Experiential Learning focused on collaboration and leadership. The program concludes with Semester 5, offering Field Experience 3, giving students significant hands-on experience in funeral home settings. This structure ensures graduates are fully prepared for licensing and a successful, compassionate career in the funeral service profession.
