Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting program at Humber spans eight semesters, offering a comprehensive curriculum that builds progressively in complexity and depth. In Semester 1, students are introduced to foundational subjects including financial accounting, microeconomics, business law, marketing, and a degree breadth elective. Semester 2 focuses on business information systems, communications, macroeconomics, organizational behaviour, and business statistics. In Semester 3, students continue with advanced financial accounting, human resources management, quantitative methods, and two breadth electives. Semester 4 deepens understanding with intermediate financial accounting, research methods, financial management, operations management, and another breadth elective. Semester 5 introduces management accounting, personal taxation, intermediate financial accounting 2, career development, advanced financial management, and a breadth elective. Semester 6 features applied accounting skills with courses such as computerized accounting, corporate taxation, intermediate management accounting, auditing, and data analytics. A key component of Semester 6 is the field experience course, providing hands-on industry exposure. Semester 7 advances into complex areas with courses in advanced management accounting, financial accounting, auditing, emerging accounting issues, and case studies. The final semester, Semester 8, integrates ethics, research, internal controls, and strategic management, capped off with a final breadth elective. The structure of the program ensures a well-rounded education in accounting and business, combining theory, technical skills, and practical experience to prepare students for professional roles and future certifications in accounting.
