Course Curriculum

The Practical Nursing program provides comprehensive training across four levels, preparing students for diverse nursing roles with a strong foundation in both theory and practical experience. At Level 1, students begin with essential courses such as Human Physiology, Nursing Concepts 1: Assessment, and Foundations of Professional Nursing Practice, alongside pharmacotherapeutic mathematics and safety in the workplace. This level introduces the fundamentals of nursing care, communication, and Indigenous ways of knowing. Level 2 builds on this foundation with applied nursing practice, nursing concepts 2, pathophysiology and pharmacotherapeutics, and collaborative nursing practice, alongside the first field placement and campus clinical experience, offering hands-on learning in clinical settings. Level 3 advances students’ knowledge through acute care nursing, family nursing concepts, advanced pharmacotherapeutics, community practice foundations, and applied nursing practice, complemented by a second field placement and campus clinical work, reinforcing critical clinical skills and decision-making. In Level 4, students complete their training with a final field placement and campus clinical consolidation, focusing on leadership in professional nursing, advanced gerontology, and preparation for real-world nursing challenges. Throughout the program, students must also complete elective general education courses to broaden their skills and knowledge. This integrated approach ensures graduates are well-equipped with the clinical expertise, critical thinking, leadership abilities, and compassionate care skills required to excel as practical nurses in various healthcare environments, including acute care, community settings, and care for the aging population.
