Course Curriculum

The Computer Systems Technology (CST) Diploma program at BCIT spans two years and 112.0 credits, offering students a strong foundation in software development through a blend of theoretical learning and hands-on experience. In the first year, students complete core courses such as programming methods, web development, discrete and applied mathematics, computer architecture, system design, and communication skills. The year concludes with a team-based project that integrates these skills. Students entering in January may complete additional modules in April–May. In the second year, students build on these fundamentals with courses in object-oriented programming, mobile development, data communications, algorithm design, and statistics. They also select from a range of specialization options including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Client/Server, Cloud Computing, Web and Mobile, Database, Digital Processing, Data Communications, Information Systems, Predictive Analytics, Programming Paradigms, Technical Programming, and the Tech Entrepreneur option. Each specialization includes targeted technical courses and two project practicums that simulate real-world development environments. Students may also participate in competitive-entry co-op terms after their first year, providing valuable industry experience. The program’s flexible structure allows students to tailor their learning based on career goals, culminating in a comprehensive diploma that is highly valued by employers in the tech industry.
