In this program, you will study the essential principles and practical skills required to design major infrastructure and manage their construction from concept to completion. You will learn how large facilities and structures are planned, analysed and built, beginning with an understanding of the fundamental properties of soils and the building materials used in modern engineering, including concrete, steel and timber. These materials and their behaviour under different conditions form the foundation of effective structural and geotechnical design. As part of the curriculum, you will also explore key cross-faculty subjects that introduce you to the various systems that make up building-like structures. This includes studying building facades, internal partitions and the critical mechanical, electrical and plumbing services that allow a building to function safely and efficiently. Through these subjects, you will gain insight into how engineering, architecture and building services interact in real-world construction environments. In addition to technical expertise, the program focuses strongly on developing professional capabilities such as interpersonal and communication skills, leadership, teamwork, critical thinking and project management. These abilities are essential for working effectively in multidisciplinary teams and handling the complex challenges that arise on construction projects. The core subjects offered in the course include Physical Modelling, Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2, Introduction to Engineering Projects, Engineering Project Appraisal, Designing Sustainable Engineering Projects, Professional Engineering Communication, Collaboration in Complex Projects, Professional Practice Preparation 1 and Professional Experience Review. Together, these subjects build a strong foundation in engineering theory, sustainable project design, communication and professional practice. By engaging with this well-rounded curriculum, you will graduate with both the technical knowledge and the practical skills needed to contribute confidently to civil engineering and construction projects across a variety of industry settings.
