The Bachelor of Music is a comprehensive three-year, full-time degree designed to provide students with pre-professional training in music. This 300-point program is structured to develop technical proficiency, creative skills, and theoretical understanding in a wide range of musical disciplines. Students begin the program with a compulsory Level 1 discovery subject called Musical Perspectives, which lays the foundation for further study in music. The core of the degree consists of 225 points focused on a chosen music major, allowing students to specialize in an area that matches their interests and talents. Additionally, students complete 50 points of breadth subjects that expand their knowledge beyond music, promoting a well-rounded education. At least 12.5 points of these breadth subjects must be at Level 2 or 3, ensuring that students engage with more advanced topics as they progress. Furthermore, 12.5 points of the degree can be taken as electives or additional breadth subjects, giving students flexibility to explore other areas of study or deepen their engagement within music. The course has clear progression rules to ensure students build on their knowledge step-by-step. Before enrolling in Level 2 core subjects, students must complete the Musical Perspectives subject. Similarly, completion of all Level 1 core subjects is required before progressing to Level 3 core subjects. It is important to note that many core subjects have prerequisites, so students need to plan their studies carefully to meet these requirements.Students must choose one of six majors when enrolling, each offering a distinct focus within music. The majors include Composition, Interactive Composition, Jazz & Improvisation, Musicology & Ethnomusicology, Music Studies, and Performance. This range of majors allows students to develop specialized skills suited to different careers in music, whether in creative, academic, or performance fields. The Bachelor of Music program aims to prepare students for a variety of professional opportunities in the music industry by providing rigorous training and broad academic experiences.
