The Bachelor of Business at James Cook University (JCU) prepares students to make meaningful contributions to organisational success by combining theoretical knowledge with practical, real-world experience. The program equips students with leadership skills, strategic insight, and an understanding of sustainable business models, allowing them to analyse trends, develop innovative solutions, and implement strategies tailored to organisational needs. Strong industry connections and the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program ensure students gain relevant placement opportunities, preparing them for professional careers in management, entrepreneurship, consulting, and other business-related fields.In the first year, students complete core subjects relevant to all business majors, then tailor their studies by selecting a major and optional minor. Employability and career development are embedded throughout the degree, with students preparing for a final-year capstone subject that allows for internships with local businesses, multidisciplinary industry projects, or independent projects aligned with full-time employment. Additional opportunities include participation in the Professional Development program and, for Townsville-based students, the Townsville Chamber of Commerce — JCU Mentoring Program, where students are paired with industry professionals for guidance on career planning, skill development, networking, and job search strategies.Students in Townsville may also be eligible for Australian Public Service Academy campus positions in digital and data-related fields, providing part-time work that could transition into full-time employment after graduation. Serving members of the Australian Defence Force can apply for advanced standing through the Army Tertiary Education Program (ATEP), allowing eligible personnel to enter the final year of the Bachelor of Business and align study with professional experience.Overall, the JCU Bachelor of Business integrates academic learning, practical experience, mentorship, and industry engagement, equipping graduates with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead organisations, support strategy, and innovate operations in dynamic business environments.
