Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree for Trimester 2, 2025, requires students to complete 280 credit points. Students who need to enhance their English skills must take the Language and Communication for Health course in their first trimester instead of a Flexible Module. The core modules cover a comprehensive range of subjects essential to medical laboratory science, including Introduction to Clinical Pathology, Cells, Tissues and Regulation, Anatomy and Physiology Systems I and II, Genes and Disease, and Chemistry of Biological Systems II. Other key courses include Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, Integrated Systems Physiology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology, and Haematology I and II. The program also includes practical subjects such as Immunology, Clinical Microbiology, Histology, Molecular Diagnostics, Histopathology, Transfusion Science, and Clinical Biochemistry. Students develop their skills further with Introduction to Biostatistics and clinical placements. Clinical Placement I and II, each worth 20 credit points, provide hands-on experience in real-world medical laboratory environments, allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge. Advanced Clinical Practice and a Clinical Laboratory Discipline Based Project complete the degree requirements, ensuring students gain advanced skills and practical research experience. This structure provides a robust foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of medical laboratory science, preparing graduates for professional roles in healthcare diagnostics and research.
