Course Curriculum

The Design Honours program is tailored for students who have demonstrated strong academic ability at the undergraduate level and wish to deepen their expertise in studio practice, research, and theory. This program provides students with the flexibility to focus on a project or topic they are passionate about, supported by access to well-equipped studios, advanced software, and specialized equipment. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to explore innovative ideas and develop a higher level of research understanding, which prepares them to contribute meaningfully to the design industry. Graduates of this program are equipped to take on leadership roles and make significant contributions across various design fields, including interior design, product and service design, graphic design, as well as interactive and 4D design. The degree structure includes a coursework component and a thesis component, requiring the completion of 40 credit points. In the first trimester, students undertake Design Research Methods, which introduces them to advanced research techniques and methodologies essential for design inquiry. The second trimester focuses on Communicating Research, where students develop the skills needed to effectively present and disseminate their research findings to a wider audience. The program is directed by Dr Tanja Beer, who ensures that all program information is accurate and that students receive appropriate guidance throughout their studies. The program director also assists students with decisions related to enrolment, academic progress, credit recognition, and graduation eligibility. Additionally, even full-time on-campus students have opportunities to tailor their timetables through flexible tutorial options and online access to course materials, allowing them to balance their studies with other life and work commitments. Overall, the Design Honours program offers a comprehensive and flexible pathway for talented students to advance their creative and research skills, positioning them for successful careers in a wide range of design-related industries.
