The Bachelor of Biomedical Science program beginning in Trimester 2, 2025, requires the completion of 160 credit points from core modules. There is also a language support option for eligible students. If a student is required to meet English proficiency requirements, they must complete the Language and Communication for Health course (5902LHS) in their first trimester. This course replaces a flexible module and is only available to students whose first language is not English. The core curriculum spans foundational and advanced topics in biomedical science. In the early phase of the program, students undertake introductory courses such as Chemistry of Biological Systems I (1001MSC), Cells, Tissues, and Regulation (1014MSC), and Anatomy and Physiology Systems I (1016MSC), which cover essential concepts in chemistry, cell biology, and human anatomy. These are followed by more advanced subjects like Chemistry of Biological Systems II (1015MSC), Anatomy and Physiology Systems II (1017MSC), and Genes and Disease (1005MSC), offering deeper insights into physiological systems and genetic disorders. As students progress, they explore areas such as Structural Biochemistry (2008MSC), Molecular Genetics (2000MSC), Integrated Systems Physiology (2012AHS), Introduction to Biostatistics (2022MSC), Fundamentals of Microbiology (2003MSC), and Metabolism (2011MSC). These courses build strong foundations in laboratory science, data analysis, and biomedical mechanisms. In the final stage of the degree, students engage with clinically oriented and research-focused subjects including Molecular Basis of Disease (3014MSC), Pharmacology (3002MSC), The Integrated Brain (3033MSC), and the BioHealth Project (3027MSC), which integrates practical and theoretical knowledge in a capstone format. This structured program prepares students for diverse pathways, including further study in medicine, entry into health-related professions, or careers in biomedical and clinical research, with a strong emphasis on scientific skills and real-world application.
