Course Curriculum

The Master of Business Administration (Human Resource Management) at Flinders University is structured around 16 topics designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in business administration while specialising in human resource management. Four of these topics focus exclusively on HRM, equipping students with advanced knowledge and skills in managing people, teams, and workplace relations effectively. The broader curriculum covers essential business disciplines such as marketing, economics, finance, ethics, sustainability, and law, ensuring graduates have a well-rounded understanding of organisational operations and governance. In the second year, students deepen their HR expertise through specialised topics including building teams and networks, advanced recruitment, and managing negotiations, preparing them to lead human resource functions strategically and ethically across diverse sectors. The program also offers flexibility for practical experience, allowing students to choose an industry placement in place of one core topic, providing hands-on exposure to real-world HR challenges and professional practice. Students can further extend their industry experience by participating in entrepreneurial programs such as FOMENT, focused on wine, viticulture, and tourism, or the Innovative Manufacturing Accelerator (IMA), which provides insights into advanced manufacturing practices. A major industry project forms a key component of the MBA, enabling students to synthesise and apply their learning across all areas of business and HR management in a practical, real-world context. Throughout the program, students develop leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills, preparing them to plan, organise, direct, control, and coordinate human resource and workplace relations activities effectively. Graduates emerge ready to assume senior management and leadership roles, combining technical HR expertise with strategic business acumen to drive workforce effectiveness, support organisational goals, and implement innovative, ethical, and sustainable people management strategies across diverse industries.
