Course Curriculum

The Master of Teaching (Primary) is a 72-unit program offered over either 1.5 years in an accelerated format or two years in the standard pathway. The accelerated option requires 45 units in the first year and 27 units in the final semester, while the two-year option spreads the study load evenly at 36 units per year.The program begins with an introduction to teaching and educational research, examining how learners develop and the factors influencing their wellbeing. Students also explore teaching through the expressive arts, alongside evidence-based models of literacy and language development. A strong focus is placed on building the skills to teach literacy and English effectively in primary classrooms. The first professional placement emphasises classroom relationship-building, proactive and responsive behaviour management, and developing reflective practice based on professional feedback.As students progress, they engage with primary curriculum topics across key learning areas, including Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), Mathematics, Science, Design Technologies, Health and Physical Education, numeracy, and digital technologies. These areas provide the pedagogical and disciplinary knowledge needed to design, implement, and assess effective and innovative learning experiences. Professional studies topics complement this with a focus on inclusive education, differentiation, and critical Indigenous pedagogical approaches.In the final semester, pre-service teachers consolidate their professional identity, demonstrate their readiness to take on the responsibilities of a graduate teacher, articulate their personal educational philosophy, and prepare for a successful transition into the profession.
