Course Curriculum

The Master of International Relations at Flinders University provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for careers in global affairs, public policy, and governance. The program combines core topics, elective units, and individual research, offering a structured yet flexible learning experience. Students develop advanced skills in critical thinking, research, and policy analysis, enabling them to address complex international and domestic challenges with evidence-based solutions.Core topics cover essential areas such as governance in a global world, policy analysis, public management, inclusion and innovation in public leadership, and professional ethics in public administration. These foundational subjects equip students with the knowledge and analytical skills required to understand the multifaceted nature of global governance and public administration. To tailor the program to individual interests and career goals, students may select electives from public policy, international relations, or international law. Additionally, two electives can be chosen from across the university, allowing for a highly customised and interdisciplinary learning experience.Practical experience is a key feature of the program. Master’s students have the opportunity to undertake an internship, providing real-world exposure and professional development. Flinders’ internships are designed to connect students with industry, government, or non-government organisations, giving them hands-on experience directly related to their specialist area and helping them graduate work-ready.Through the combination of core knowledge, flexible electives, and practical experience, graduates develop the analytical, leadership, and communication skills necessary for careers as policy advisors, analysts, project managers, or leaders in public and private sector organisations. The program prepares students to navigate complex international and domestic policy environments, engage critically with global challenges, and contribute effectively to the development and implementation of policy solutions that have meaningful impact.
