In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in Public Health, How Your Body Works, Professional Communication, Health and Social Care in Australia, and Indigenous Studies. These courses provide a strong understanding of human health, cultural awareness, and effective communication skills essential for public health practice.In the second year, the focus shifts toward analytical and research skills through Biostatistics, Environmental Change and Human Health, Epidemiology, and Health Equity. Students learn to critically evaluate health data, assess environmental and social determinants of health, and implement strategies to reduce disparities in health outcomes. The third year emphasizes leadership, policy, and economics with core topics in Leadership in Public Health, Health Economics, Health Equity, and Policy, preparing students to design, manage, and evaluate public health initiatives and programs.For students who pursue an Honours year, advanced topics provide opportunities for specialization and research in areas such as Population Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Behavioural Health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing, Health Economics, Trauma and Injury, Biostatistics, Health Equity, and Point of Care. This year allows students to deepen their expertise and develop research skills while focusing on areas that have a significant impact on public health outcomes.Overall, the Bachelor of Public Health blends scientific knowledge, research skills, cultural understanding, and policy insight, producing graduates ready to become leaders and advocates in public health. It prepares students to address pressing health issues, improve population wellbeing, and make a positive difference in communities across Australia and around the world.
