The Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics provides students with a comprehensive understanding of how diet and nutrition influence health and wellbeing, preparing them for a career in clinical, community, and public health settings. In the first year, students develop a solid foundation in human bioscience, nutrition, and physical activity, alongside research and study skills. The course also emphasises cultural competence, with a focus on working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, preparing students to deliver inclusive and effective nutrition services. In the second year, the curriculum builds on this foundation with topics in biochemistry, human physiology, nutrition across the lifecycle, and advanced research skills. These subjects equip students with the knowledge to understand the biological and physiological mechanisms underlying nutrition and health and provide the skills necessary for evidence-based practice. Students also begin to explore how nutrition can influence growth, development, and disease prevention across different stages of life. The third year introduces specialised topics such as the role and function of nutrients, nutritional counselling, clinical nutrition and dietetics, and public health and community nutrition. These subjects allow students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing them to assess nutritional needs, develop personalised interventions, and promote health at both individual and population levels. In the fourth year, students undertake independent studies in nutrition and dietetics and focus on research and professional practice. A variety of placements, including individual case management, community and public health, and food service management, provide hands-on experience, enabling students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Graduates of the program are equipped with the skills and expertise to work as dietitians, nutritionists, and health professionals in a variety of clinical, community, and public health roles. The program combines scientific rigour, practical experience, and professional development, ensuring graduates are prepared to make meaningful contributions to health promotion, disease prevention, and nutrition practice.
