Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Medical Science at Flinders University provides a structured and comprehensive pathway into the biomedical sciences, preparing students for careers in health, research, and diagnostics. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core topics such as Histology, Biology, Chemistry, and Physiology, alongside two elective topics. These subjects introduce students to essential concepts in human biology and laboratory practices, establishing the groundwork for more advanced study in subsequent years.In the second year, students continue to develop their expertise with core topics including Skills for Medical Scientists, Human Physiology, and Biochemistry, complemented by two additional elective topics. This year emphasizes practical skills, scientific reasoning, and analytical techniques, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in laboratory settings and understand how biomedical research informs modern medical practice.The third year focuses on consolidating knowledge and preparing students for professional or research roles. Core topics include continued study of Skills for Medical Scientists and the chosen major from Year 2, alongside nine elective topics. This structure allows students to tailor their degree according to their interests, exploring areas such as molecular biology, immunology, pharmacology, or public health, while gaining advanced laboratory and research skills.Throughout the degree, students are encouraged to integrate theoretical learning with practical experience, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based decision-making skills.
