The Bachelor of Media at Flinders University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in communication, digital media, and content creation across multiple platforms. In the first year, students build essential skills in academic and professional communication, marketing principles, social media, multimedia design, imitation and originality, Indigenous studies, and digital communication. These courses establish a solid grounding in communication theory, practical media skills, and cultural awareness, preparing students for more advanced study and specialised topics in later years.In the second year, students expand their knowledge depending on their chosen specialisation. Core topics may include social media and digital content, emerging communication technologies such as AI and blockchain, cross-platform content creation, digital graphic design, interaction design, social media marketing, editing, digital marketing and analysis, public relations, crisis communication, discourse and media, social science data, branding and advertising, and editing. This year focuses on applying theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts, developing technical skills, and understanding the dynamics of contemporary media and communication industries.In the third year, students engage with advanced topics aligned with their specialisation, such as gender, media and society, leadership, AI in workplace communication, e-portfolio development, student-led agency projects, professional branding, entrepreneurship in creative industries, intercultural communication, workplace experience in communication, and business communication. These courses provide practical, hands-on experiences and opportunities for professional development, allowing students to apply their skills in industry settings and build a portfolio that showcases their expertise.Throughout the degree, students gain the knowledge, technical skills, and practical experience needed to excel in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
