The Bachelor of Information Technology (Forensic Computing and Cybersecurity) at Flinders University is designed to equip students with both core IT skills and specialised forensic computing expertise. Graduates gain foundational knowledge in computing, cybersecurity, databases, and computational intelligence, alongside advanced skills in forensic investigation, preparing them for careers in cybercrime prevention, digital forensics, and IT security. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in computer programming, computational intelligence, networks, cybersecurity, databases, and forensic practice. These subjects provide the technical and analytical skills necessary for more advanced study and practical applications in forensic contexts. The second year expands on these fundamentals with specialised topics such as forensic criminalistics, data engineering, digital forensics, systems software, and workplace preparation. This year develops students’ ability to investigate digital evidence, manage data systems, and apply IT solutions in professional and investigative settings. In the third year, students focus on advanced forensic and cybersecurity practices. Core topics include crime scene management, information security, mobile device forensics, evidence evaluation, and cloud and distributed computing. Students also undertake a six-week industry-based practical component, gaining hands-on experience applying their knowledge in real-world environments and collaborating with professional teams.Graduates of the program are well-prepared to work as forensic computing specialists, digital investigators, cybersecurity analysts, or IT professionals with expertise in forensic applications. The combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience ensures they can analyse and manage digital evidence, support criminal investigations, safeguard digital infrastructure, and contribute to legal processes.
