Discover how each program is uniquely designed to inspire learning

The Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) (Honours) at Flinders University is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address environmental challenges and develop sustainable engineering solutions. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through core topics in earth sciences, mathematics, physics, engineering design, and geospatial systems. These subjects provide the analytical and technical skills necessary to understand and solve complex environmental problems. In the second year, students build on this foundation with courses in programming, hydrology, geology and geomechanics, electronics, sustainability, waste and energy, and mechanics and structures. These topics integrate scientific principles with practical engineering applications, enabling students to design solutions that are both technically sound and environmentally responsible. The third year focuses on advanced environmental engineering concepts, including hydrogeology, production engineering, hydraulics, water engineering, and engineering management. Students develop the ability to analyze environmental systems, manage projects, and apply engineering methods to solve real-world environmental challenges, preparing them for professional practice in industry or research settings. In the fourth and final year, students undertake advanced topics in infrastructure, environmental design, systems engineering, and research methods, along with honours option topics. This capstone year allows students to synthesize their learning, engage in research or practical projects, and apply their knowledge to complex environmental engineering problems.Throughout the program, students gain practical experience through laboratories, fieldwork, and work-integrated learning opportunities, ensuring they are ready to meet industry demands. Graduates of the Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) (Honours) are prepared for careers as environmental engineers, sustainability consultants, water resource engineers, or specialists in infrastructure and environmental management. The course equips students with the expertise, problem-solving skills, and professional experience necessary to make a meaningful impact on environmental sustainability and contribute to a greener, more resilient future.
