The Master of Psychology (Clinical) is a two-year program that blends academic coursework, research, and extensive clinical placement to prepare students for professional registration and practice as clinical psychologists. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge and skills. Semester 1 covers psychological assessment, professional practice fundamentals, adult psychopathology, and clinical intervention strategies. Semester 2 expands into child and adolescent psychopathology, diversity in practice, research methods, and continues with supervised professional experience. In the second year, students advance their clinical competencies and theoretical knowledge. Semester 1 includes advanced topics in adult psychopathology and clinical skills, alongside a focus on community-based psychological practice and further professional placement. Semester 2 deepens understanding with units on advanced child and adolescent psychopathology, advanced clinical interventions, and clinical health psychology, culminating in the final stage of professional practice.Across the two years, students complete four progressive stages of professional practice, gaining a minimum of 1000 hours of supervised clinical experience. This hands-on training occurs both within the university’s own psychology clinic and through partnerships with external health services, often in rural or regional settings. The curriculum is designed to align with national accreditation requirements and provides the comprehensive training needed to apply for general registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Graduates may also begin the registrar program to gain endorsement in the clinical psychology area of practice.
