The Honours program in Psychological Sciences is structured to develop both advanced research capabilities and practical professional skills. Designed for students who have completed an undergraduate psychology degree and wish to pursue further academic or professional training, the course spans one year and is divided into two semesters. In Semester 1, students undertake Psychological Practice (PSYCP6011) and Psychological Research Methods (PSYCP6014), each worth 15 credit points. These subjects build the foundation for understanding ethical, practical, and methodological aspects of working in the field. A major focus of the semester is the commencement of the Research Project (PSYCH4001), a 30-credit point unit that involves designing and beginning an independent psychological research study under supervision. This project is a key component of the Honours program and continues into the second semester. In Semester 2, students continue to develop applied competencies through Skills for Practice (PSYCP6012) and Psychological Assessment (PSYCP6013), each also worth 15 credit points. These subjects focus on the application of psychological theory in real-world settings, including communication skills, professional conduct, and tools used in psychological assessment and diagnosis. Simultaneously, students complete the second part of their Research Project (PSYCH4102), worth 30 credit points, culminating in the presentation of their findings in a formal research report. The course structure provides a balance of coursework and research, equipping students with the theoretical knowledge, practical expertise, and research experience required for further postgraduate study or registration as a psychologist. The Honours year is academically demanding but highly rewarding, offering a critical bridge between undergraduate study and entry into professional psychology training or research careers. Through this structure, students gain not only academic and scientific insight but also valuable applied skills that are directly relevant to clinical, educational, organisational, or research settings.
