Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Software Application Development) is structured to build a strong foundation in IT fundamentals and develop advanced skills in software development. In the first year, students complete core units such as Digital Literacy, User Centred Design, Connected Systems, and Data and Information Systems, which introduce key IT concepts and tools. The second semester focuses on practical knowledge with units like Cybersecurity Fundamentals and Foundations of Programming, alongside the Professional Identity unit that begins career development and includes one elective for subject flexibility.In the second year, the program deepens technical skills with units like Agile Coding, Web Design, and IT Project Management Techniques. Students learn how to work in teams using modern development methodologies and tools. The second semester includes Data Modelling and Data Structures and Algorithms, providing students with skills in software logic and data organization. Electives during this year allow for exploration of personal interests or complementary fields in IT.The third year emphasizes real-world experience and industry integration. Students undertake two extensive cooperative placements totaling 60 credit points, giving them valuable workplace exposure and the chance to apply their academic learning. In the final semester, students complete a capstone Project and take advanced units such as Software Engineering, Requirements Management and DevOps, and User Experience. These units are designed to mirror industry practices and prepare students for software development roles upon graduation.The structure of this course balances theoretical foundations with practical applications, offering students the opportunity to become proficient developers with hands-on experience. Graduates will leave with a strong portfolio, industry connections from placements, and the technical and professional skills needed for careers in application development, software engineering, or systems analysis.
