The Bachelor of Information Technology (Cybersecurity) is a structured three-year degree designed to develop industry-ready professionals equipped to defend against modern cybersecurity threats. In Year 1, students build core IT knowledge through units such as Digital Literacy, User Centred Design, Connected Systems, and Data and Information Systems, each worth 15 credit points in Semester 1. Semester 2 introduces students to the basics of cybersecurity with Cybersecurity Fundamentals, along with Foundations of Programming, Professional Identity (Information Technology), and one elective. These units establish the essential technical and professional groundwork. In Year 2, the focus shifts to more specialized topics in cybersecurity. Semester 1 covers Secure Network Architecture and Design, Cybersecurity Governance, Risk and Compliance, and IT Project Management Techniques, plus one elective. Semester 2 includes advanced units like Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing, and Cloud Security, allowing students to understand both offensive and defensive cybersecurity strategies. An additional elective provides flexibility to explore further areas of interest. Year 3 is centered on professional experience and advanced technical skills. In Semester 1, students undertake two extensive paid placements through Federation Co-op: Co-operative Placement 1 and 2 (each worth 30 credit points), offering 60 days of real-world industry experience. These placements are key to enhancing employability and applying theoretical knowledge in practical settings. In Semester 2, students complete the program with a capstone Project, and advanced units such as Requirements Management and DevOps, Security Operations, and Incident Management & Digital Forensics. These final units integrate learning across the course, focusing on critical areas of cybersecurity operations, system management, and response to security incidents. By combining foundational IT education, cybersecurity expertise, and extensive industry experience, this degree prepares graduates to step directly into high-demand roles in the cybersecurity field.
