The Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) is a four-year degree that provides students with a comprehensive education in designing, planning, and managing civil infrastructure. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation in core engineering concepts through units such as Computational Skills for Engineers, Physics for Engineers 1 and 2, Engineering Design 1 and 2, and Applied Mathematics 1 and 2. The semester also includes Professional Identity (Engineering), which introduces students to the expectations of professional practice. In Year 2, the focus shifts to discipline-specific knowledge. Semester 1 covers Construction Engineering 1, Road and Traffic Engineering, and Hydrology and Hydraulics, alongside an elective. Semester 2 builds on this with Geotechnical Engineering 1, Water and Wastewater Systems, and Structural Engineering 1, allowing students to explore critical aspects of civil systems and infrastructure design. In Year 3, students begin applying their knowledge in real-world contexts through two substantial industry placements. Semester 1 includes Co-operative Placement 1 (30 credit points), Structural Engineering 2, and an elective. Semester 2 follows with Co-operative Placement 2 (30 credit points), Geomatics Engineering, and another elective, giving students hands-on experience in professional environments and improving their employability. Year 4 focuses on capstone design and advanced technical expertise. In Semester 1, students undertake the Engineering Design Project and the first part of their Engineering Capstone Project, while also studying Geotechnical Engineering 2 and one elective. Semester 2 concludes the program with Engineering Capstone Project 2, Construction Engineering 2, and a final elective. Throughout the course, students gain technical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience, preparing them for careers in areas such as structural, geotechnical, water, or transport engineering. Online students must attend on-campus block labs to ensure they gain critical hands-on experience.
