The Diploma of Communications and Creative Industries is a two-year program designed to provide students with both foundational and industry-relevant knowledge and skills in communication, media, and the creative arts. It is registered under CRICOS Code 092033G and can be completed over two or three trimesters per year. The diploma offers a structured pathway into second-year studies in related bachelor’s degrees at Edith Cowan University (ECU).Year 1 consists of 8 units, including five core subjects that focus on essential academic and employability skills. These are Communication Skills (COM210), Introductory Computing (CPT107), Introductory Mathematics (MTH104), Workplace Communication – Employability (COM220), and Project Management (PMG100). Students also choose three electives to complement their learning and broaden their knowledge in areas related to communications and the creative industries. This stage lays the groundwork for further study by developing critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy.Year 2 also includes 8 units and is structured to deepen students’ understanding of communication theory and creative practices. Core subjects include Creativity (SAH1150D), Storytelling and Meaning (SAH1250D), Communicating Ideas (SAH1100D), Media and Culture (SAH1200D), Professional and Academic Communication (PAC1100D), Work and Career (SBL1800D), and Marketing Principles and Practices (MKT1600D). These units explore how messages are crafted, delivered, and interpreted across different platforms and contexts. Students also select one recommended elective to tailor their experience based on personal interests or career goals.Successful completion of the Year 2 program allows students to receive up to 8 units (120 credit points) of advanced standing into a relevant ECU bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 50% pass in all units is required for progression. The diploma provides a strong mix of academic preparation and real-world relevance, making it ideal for students aiming to build careers in media, public relations, design, marketing, or other creative fields.
