Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Information Technology at Edith Cowan University is a three-year full-time program designed to equip students with a strong mix of technical expertise and business understanding. The course progresses from foundational IT knowledge in the first year to more advanced enterprise-focused skills and industry experience in the final stages.In the first year, students develop core competencies across key IT areas. Units include Professional Science Essentials, Programming Principles, Mathematics for Computing, and Systems Analysis in Semester 1, followed by Applied Communications, Computer Security, Computer Fundamentals, and Systems and Database Design in Semester 2. These units introduce students to computing logic, security basics, systems thinking, and effective communication within IT contexts.The second year shifts towards more advanced technical and business-integrated topics. Semester 1 includes Enterprise Data, Scripting Languages, IT Security Management, and IoT and OT Security, focusing on the management and protection of digital information systems. Semester 2 builds practical and leadership skills through Interactive Web Development, Project Methods and Professionalism, Management, and Network Security Fundamentals.In the third year, the curriculum continues to bridge technical skills with real-world business application. Semester 1 includes units such as Machine Learning and Data Visualisation, Enterprise Security and Governance, Leadership, and Social Media Marketing. These subjects prepare students for leadership roles and help them understand how IT supports business strategy and innovation.In the final semester, students choose between completing a 60-credit Work Integrated Learning placement, providing real industry experience, or an Applied Project alongside two elective units. Both pathways ensure students graduate with practical experience, ready to step into professional IT roles.
