Course Curriculum

The Diploma of Health Sciences requires students to complete eight core units, each worth one credit point, along with one or two compulsory zero-credit-point modules. From Trimester 3, 2024, some international students will also be required to complete an additional compulsory zero-credit module. The selection of units depends on the degree pathway students intend to pursue at Deakin University. Core units cover a broad range of foundational topics in health and related sciences, including Understanding Health, Health Information and Data, Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology, Health Behaviour, and various psychology and exercise science subjects. Additional units cover disease prevention, nutrition, food systems, human development, and key bioscience subjects like Cells and Genes, Chemistry, and Physics for Life Sciences. Management and introductory criminology units are also available, providing a well-rounded curriculum. Students must also complete mandatory modules such as Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin and Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction Program, with an optional Language Development Module for some international students. This structure ensures students gain foundational knowledge across health sciences and related disciplines, preparing them effectively for further study and careers in health-related fields.
