Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at Deakin University offers a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for a professional career in exercise and sport science. To complete the degree, students must successfully pass 24 credit points, which include a compulsory unit on academic integrity and respect, taken in the first study period. The course structure requires 16 credit points of core units that provide foundational knowledge in areas such as anatomy, physiology, psychology, and sport science principles. In addition to the core units, students choose 8 credit points of open electives, which can be selected freely or from one or two major sequences. This flexibility allows students to tailor their studies to suit their interests and career ambitions, with options spanning applied sport science, exercise physiology, health promotion, nutrition, sport coaching, and strength and conditioning, among others. The program is delivered over trimesters, with full-time students typically enrolling in four credit points per trimester and undertaking two trimesters each year. This structure enables a balanced workload and timely progression through the degree. One of the key strengths of the course is its emphasis on practical learning, with more than 220 hours of hands-on experience integrated into the curriculum. Students have the opportunity to engage in placements with a variety of organizations, including professional sports clubs, national sporting bodies, rehabilitation clinics, and high-performance training centers.
