Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Deakin University requires students to complete a total of 32 credit points to graduate. This includes several compulsory zero-credit-point units completed in the early stages of the course, such as Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, Career Tools for Employability, Introduction to Safety and Project Oriented Learning, and for some majors, the Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction Program. The core academic requirements include 11 credit points of core units that cover foundational engineering knowledge.Students must also complete one major, which consists of 19 credit points in a specialised area such as civil, electrical, mechanical, or environmental engineering. Additionally, students are required to complete two credit points of open elective units, although those without prior experience in VCE Mathematical Methods may only need to complete one elective after undertaking a recommended preparatory mathematics unit in their first trimester. Academic progression rules limit students to a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and require a minimum of 10 credit points at level 3 or above, ensuring they advance to more complex and specialised study throughout their degree.Most units carry one credit point each, and full-time students typically study four credit points per trimester across two trimesters per year. This structure balances theoretical learning with practical and project-based experiences, supporting the development of both technical skills and professional attributes essential for success in engineering careers.
