Course Curriculum

To complete the Bachelor of Computer Science at Deakin, students must pass a total of 24 credit points. This includes compulsory zero-credit units such as Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, Safety Induction Program, and Career Tools for Employability, all completed in the early stages of the course. The degree requires 13 credit points of core units that provide foundational knowledge, along with 3 credit points dedicated to computer science capstone units where students apply their skills in real-world projects. Additionally, students must complete 8 credit points of elective study, which can be structured in various ways: a single major (6 credit points) plus 2 credit points of open electives, a minor (4 credit points) alongside 4 credit points of open electives, or two minors totaling 8 credit points. The course enforces academic progression rules, allowing a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1, ensuring that at least 14 credit points are completed at levels 2 and 3. Furthermore, a minimum of 6 credit points must be at level 3, focusing on advanced, specialised knowledge. This flexible structure enables students to tailor their degree according to their interests and career goals, while maintaining a strong emphasis on core computer science skills and practical experience.
