Course Curriculum

Deakin’s Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence is a comprehensive degree designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop and implement cutting-edge AI technologies. To complete the degree, students must pass 24 credit points, which include a mix of core units, electives, and practical experiences that prepare them for the demands of the AI industry. The program starts with compulsory zero-credit units such as Academic Integrity and Respect, a Safety Induction Program, and Career Tools for Employability, which help students develop a strong foundation in academic professionalism and workplace readiness. The core curriculum consists of 17 credit points focusing on essential AI principles, algorithms, and technologies, complemented by a 3-credit-point capstone unit where students work on real-world projects, synthesizing their learning in a practical context. Students can also choose 4 credit points from either open elective units or a minor to diversify their expertise and tailor the degree to their interests. The course structure ensures students engage with increasingly advanced content, limiting the number of level 1 units to a maximum of 10 credit points while requiring at least 6 credit points at level 3, which promotes deeper understanding and specialization. Typically, full-time students take four credit points per trimester over two trimesters each year, providing a balanced and manageable workload throughout the degree. This structure supports progressive skill development and practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to join a dynamic workforce where AI technologies are rapidly transforming industries.
