Course Curriculum

The Master of Science in Agriculture and Food Security is structured over two years and combines core coursework, specialization, and research training. In the first year, Semester 1 begins with STEM Research Methodologies, which builds essential research and analytical skills. Students then complete 200 credit points by selecting one of two alternate core majors, either Agricultural Systems or Food Security, allowing them to focus their studies on farming systems or global food challenges. In the same semester, students choose a quantitative unit, selecting either Quantitative Biology or Decision Methods and Predictive Analytics, to strengthen data analysis and decision-making skills relevant to agriculture and food systems. In Semester 2 of Year 1, students study Global Environmental Challenges, which examines environmental pressures affecting agriculture and sustainability worldwide. They also choose one specialized unit from Plant Molecular Biology or Aquaculture and Food Security, gaining deeper insight into biological innovation or sustainable aquatic food systems. In the second year, the program emphasizes independent research. Semester 1 focuses on Life Sciences Research Design, where students develop a robust research proposal and methodology aligned with their chosen major. In Semester 2, students complete a Life Sciences Research Dissertation, applying advanced research skills to address real-world issues in agriculture and food security, and demonstrating their ability to conduct independent, high-level scientific research.
